The Alicante Contemporary Arts Museum is one of the most important cultural projects of the city, conceived as a solution to the lack of space of the Museo de la Asegurada and its 20th century art collection. At the same time it opened new spaces to exhibit the contemporary art collections owned by the municipality.

The Alicante Contemporary Arts Museum - also known as MACA- opened in December 2010. Its permanent collection includes:

  • 20th century Art Collection: donated by Eusebio Sempere to Alicante in 1978, the collection is one of the pillars of the museum. It comprises 177 pieces, including paintings, sculpture and prints spanning 70 years, from the 1920s to the 1980s, and represents the main names and movements of contemporary Spanish arts. Some of the most important artists of the 20th century are present in the collection: Picasso, Cocteau, Chagall, Bacon, Miró, Dalí among many others.
  • Eusebio Sempere Collection: encompassing the works of Eusebio Sempere, collected by the Alicante City Hall since 1996. It consists of 101 pieces including paintings, sculpture and graphic work, spanning a large portion of Sempere's career, from the 1940s (oil paintings and drawings) to the 1970s.
  • Juana Francés Collection.
