If you have decided to travel to Salamanca, the city offers a large number of museums for all interests.

Domus Artium – DA2 is a contemporary art centre in Salamanca, managed by the Salamanca City Hall. The museum opened in 2002, to commemorate the fact that Salamanca was the European Capital of Culture that year.

DA2

This contemporary arts gallery was created in order to address the need for a centre that specialised in contemporary arts in a city that has continuously renewed its cultural offer, blending historical heritage with a modern approach to visual and performing arts and music.

The Foundation Salamanca Ciudad de Cultura has become the organisation that channels and answers to this demand, and the organism behind large cultural projects, such as the International Arts Festival of Castilla y León.

The artistic program developed since DA2 Salamanca's birth stands out for its strong support for the latest national and international artistic trends, devoting especial focus to those developed from the 1990s till today and aiming to support up and coming artists from Salamanca and Castilla y León

In years past especial attention has been paid to artists that work with video and new audiovisual formats, with several rooms specifically equipped to house exhibitions on this format.

DA2

Normally, the gallery holds individual exhibitions by influential national and international artists (such as Sam Taylor Wood, Cindy Sherman and Adriana Varejao, among others), working with all types of format and languages. At the same time, specific individual projects by younger international artists whose work has developed in the last decade and who are still very much unknown in Spain (such as Shoja Azari, Clare Langan, Javier Nuñez Gasco, and many more) are also welcome.

Once or twice a year, two large group exhibitions are held in the contemporary arts gallery in Salamanca, with a comprehensive list of specialised publications, including artist monographies and theory texts about the uses and meanings of the image, complementing the exhibition programme.

DA2 Salamanca also has a permanent collection that includes many remarkable contemporary artists, such as Janine Antoni, Torben Giehler and Djame Tatah, among many others.
